IFOAM CONGRESS France, September 2021
1. IFOAM – Organics International and the organic movement put wellbeing and human health (including social well-being, income for farmers/producers and consumers’ health) in their development strategies. In this context, IFOAM – Organics International and its members look for cooperations to understand the needs of operators, consumers and standards developers and they look for getting funding support.
2. The organic movement raises awareness and researches the relation between health, organic agriculture and lifestyle.
Rationale: The importance of IFOAM – Organics International and its membership can only increase if scientific, ecological, practical, health and social criteria are included into nutrition.
The healthcare system is dominated by the pharmaceutical industry, yet public health and preventive medicine need to be based on a system of healthy nutrition. Currently, the organic movement does not have the scientific knowledge required to drive the paradigm shift. Besides, it does not have sufficient understanding of the needs of the big players in question, such as hospitals, caterers, canteens, hotels, restaurants etc. If the organic movement allies with powerful companies, thus creating common fora, we can achieve a lot on a global scale.
EcoWellness established the EcoWellness Standard for medical prevention/health promotion and disposes of an extensive experience, slowly but steadily gaining momentum and influence. The finding of the “Lancet EAT Study” from 2019 backs our position, calling for a transformation of “the global food system through sound science, impatient disruption and novel partnerships”. In 2020, on invitation by UNICEF, EcoWellness gave a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, addressing the global obesity pandemic. In July 2020, EcoWellness was able to hold a conference with renowned professors on the “COVID – 19 pandemic” in Salzburg. The conclusion (and declaration) was that only a total system change of the health care industry and the public health sector will be able to prevent a collapse of our society.
EcoWellness wants to share its vast knowledge. Joining forces with the network of IFOAM – Organics International with its principle of health is a huge chance to scale this knowledge.
